We recently spent an entertaining day with Tim Rajeff, owner and designer of Echo Fly Rods. This brand has just launched in NZ and Tim took the time to come out from the US to tell us all about his gear. Tim and partner Katherine Hart are both world casting champions and master casting instructors… they know what they are talking about.
The first stop on there NZ / Oz tour was Taupo, with an afternoon at the Taupo Fishing Club, supported by Crafty Trout Brewery, and then a day at the Tongariro Lodge in Turangi. Tim is a natural entertainer and instructor, mesmerising the crowds with his casting skills, and easy way of explaining the technical aspects of the cast.
Tim and Kath brought an arsenal of rods with them from the new Bad Ass Glass saltwater fibre glass rods to the super light and precise Shadow II Euro nymphing sticks, and heaps of double handers as well.
There are still a few opportunities to go and see Tim and the Echo gear in action in NZ:
November 18th at Complete Angler in Christchurch
November 20th at Burnside Bowling Club in Christchurch
Check out the Echo Facebook page for details. If you want to know anything about fly rod construction and materials, casting techniques, or a bit of one-on-one instruction from 2 of the worlds best - do yourself a favour and get along to one of these days.
A big thanks to Tim and Kath, I look forward to taking you out for a fish next time your down this way.
