Having grown up fishing at any opportunity with his dad, Matt was lucky enough to take over the historic Taupo Rod and Tackle in 2010. "Being in a business you love means it never feels like going to work!" Matt and customer service officer Louis spend as much time as they can out on the lake during summer and then up the rivers during winter - a typical Taupo fisherman!

Shop Manager Dustin moved to New Zealand just to chase trout, so working in a tackle shop in Taupo is like a dream come true. While this is still a big passion for him, especially swinging big flies on the local streams, fly tying has become another obsession. He is the man to ask anything about tying trout and saltwater flies. Dustin has also caught the saltwater fly fishing bug so if he can't be found up a river somewhere then he will be in a harbour stalking Kingfish.
Saltwater obsessed, Gian is super focused on catching any saltwater species on the fly. With a Degree in Marine Biology, skippers ticket and legendary boat Kings to Be Found in survey, and complete attention to detail, Gian is the ultimate saltwater fly fishing guide. While Gian spends winter in the shop, we do tend to loose him to Tauranga Harbour during most of the summer.
Our Czech Connection is... well of course a Czech Nymphing expert. Tomas can usually be found repair rods and tying flies when he is not on a mission up a local, or not so local river. Tomas' enthusiasm for fishing is infectious!
